Previous bike history:
2009 Versys 650 (still the most fun) traded
2013 Concours 14 (not as comfortable but very easy to launch) traded
2014 DRZ400SM (wheelie machine) traded
My wife wanted another bike she can ride on the back of, we saw this ZX14R on the lot and loved it. My sales guy gave me the following:
2013 zx14r @ $11500, it had a small crack in the headlight upper fairing. I got him to lower the price to 9500. Throw in a new set of Angel GTs for free installed. An OEM upper fairing and right side fairing for free. They gave me the warranty at cost. EDIT: They also gave me a stardust white rear seat cover which was originally missing.
I rode the bike for approximately 24 hours before pulling all the plastics and wheels off.
Here is what I found:
No damage to any components other than a small crack in the upper fairing.
Voodoo exhaust without baffles
What appears to be a stock header
PCV with a custom tune, it didn't match any of the builds on the PC website
cracked clutch slave spacer
Only 1 key
Here is what I did:
Pulled all plastics off
Pulled off both wheels
Checked bearings, all good
Checked chain/sprockets, all good
Cleaned front sprocket area until it sparkled, cleaned rear sprocket and chain
Replaced upper fairing, xfered mirrors and headlight housing over
dropped my well nuts into the abyss, ordered a new set for $4
Adjusted tabs on tank cover
set chain slack, aligned wheel
took initial suspension adjustments, all factory spec
stiffened up all adjustments slightly for my weight (rear preload collar is stiff, need to soak, grime is prob locking it up)
found some dried coolant at what I think is the thermostat on the left side, looks old and does not appear to be leaking but its under warranty if so.
Ran a 6ft usb cable from the PCV to the rear of the bike under the seat
Luckily, I did not have any left over parts :)
I just need to install new well nuts on the fairing where it meets the dash covers and get that preload collar to loosen up and the bike will be 100%.
So far my impression is that the power band is similar to the connie but way more rush at mid-top. Its actually more comfortable for me than the concours was as well. Its way to easy to hit 150 on this thing going to work :)
I plan on taking this bike to the drag strip when it warms up.
